Biography

A native of Montréal, Québec, Etienne Lavigne trained at L'École supérieure de ballet contemporain de Montréal, San Francisco Ballet School and National Ballet of Cuba. He joined The National Ballet of Canada in 1997 and was promoted to First Soloist in 2007.

With the National Ballet, Mr. Lavigne's repertoire includes lead roles in Swan Lake, Giselle, The Taming of the Shrew, The Sleeping Beauty, An Italian Straw Hat, The Merry Widow, The Firebird, Romeo and Juliet, Madame Butterfly, The Nutcracker, Song of the Earth and Symphony in C.

In 2008 he performed Siegfried from Swan Lake and a pas de deux from The Leaves are Fading with Greta Hodgkinson with the National Chamber Orchesta of Armenia, and in 2007 he was invited to perform Swan Lake with Heather Ogden at the 60th anniversary gala of The Banff Centre for the Arts.

In 2009, Mr. Lavigne was awarded the David Tory Award. He will appear in the role of Erik Bruhn in the upcoming Bravo! TV docudrama Nureyev, set to air in 2009.
